You will need:
Flat-head Screwdriver or similiar device (to pry open panels)
T-30 Torx Bit
#2 Phillips Screwdriver
10mm Wrench

1. Remove the negative battery cable, use the 10mm wrench. This is a precautionary measure, you wouldn't want the airbag to go off in your face.

2. Next, remove the panels on both sides of the steering wheel, shown here (just pry it up with the flat-blade screwdriver):

the left side

Here, you can see the right side removed, as well as the Torx Bolt (on both sides) you need to unscrew:

the right side

3. Unscrew the bolts on both sides until it catches on the clips:

4. Gently remove horn/airbag module, do not let it hang by the wires. At this point you may disconnect the airbag module itself, but i found it unecessary. I just let it rest on the steering wheel itself off to the side so i had access to the screw for the audio controls.

5. Unplug the wires for the audio control shown here already removed:

Main Plug

Cruise Control Plug

Horn Plug, on the horn/airbag module itself. The crimp style connector has a little clip that you have to press down to pull it off.

Circled in red is the clip i was talking about

Harness

6. Unscrew the audio control with the #2 Philips Screwdriver, and unclip audio control; there are two clips, one visible, one hidden underneath the audio control towards the bottom:

7. Now that the audio control is removed, replace airbag/horn module back in it spot until you're ready to reinstall the audio control

8. Unscrew the two screws on the back marked in red circles (already removed in picture):

9. Unclip back of audio control, just give it a hard tug. Remove the harness at this time.

10. You should now have access to the circuit board, desolder the 3 SMT LEDs, solder in your replacements:

LED locations marked in red, two already removed

Close up of LED, note the notch on the bottom right for orientation of your new LED.

11. Reassemble, reverse of removal

A few more pictures to come and a night picture later on. The LEDs haven't arrived yet (stupid UPS), there were supposed to arrive last Friday. For those with the navigation controls, follow the same procedure for the audio controls... I believe they are connected with the audio controls. You may want to unplug the airbag/horn module completely to make things easier.

FYI, I used these LEDs: http://www.eled.com/product.asp?cata...id=EA3528PBC-J
Speaking of which, if you're pretty skilled with a soldering iron, you won't need soldering wick to remove the LEDs. Here's a little trick: use needle nose pliers with one hand to gently apply continuous upward pressure on the LED, while going quickly back and forth with the soldering iron in the other hand, melting the solder on both sides. The key is to go quickly, the idea is to heat up both sides of the LED so that you can just use the pliers to just easily pull it off. Be careful though, you don't want to pull to hard if its not melted enough; you'll pull the solder pads right off with the LED. The LEDs are held down by glue also, so you don't want to be TOO gentle either.

*as always, I'm not responsible for what you do with this information, etc blah blah blah. Do it at your own risk!

EDIT: LEDs finally came in, and it looks pretty nice! again, check the polarity of your LED's... the ones I bought were reverse polarity compared to the original.

END RESULT:
Day Time Pic (sorry for the bluriness, my hands aren't very steady)

Night Time Pic (its really damn difficult to take a pic without flash! i need a tripod or something...)

the camera makes it look a little brighter than it actually is. Its really quite unobtrusive but still noticeable
